The centenarian bars
Madrid's Restaurantes Centenarios association lists the bars and restaurants over a hundred years old. Casa Alberto on Calle Huertas 18, from 1827, is in the house where Cervantes wrote part of Don Quixote; it does vermouth on tap and oxtail. Others: Casa Ciriaco on Calle Mayor (1887), Bodega de la Ardosa in Malasaña (1892) with the tortilla and the bar you duck under, and La Venencia on Echegaray, sherry only, no photos, no tips.
